Albufeira boat trips: the pirate ship

One of the most highly recommended activities in the Algarve, especially for families and groups, is the pirate ship trip.

You'll climb aboard a historic wooden ship and cruise along the coast from Albufeira Marina, passing many of the most famous beaches in the Algarve, along with its grottoes and caves, including the famous Benagil Cave.

The trip runs in the morning with a barbecue on the beach, or in the afternoon:

The first option is the most complete one. It lasts around 6 hours.

This trip includes a stop at a lovely semi-private beach where you can tuck into a traditional Portuguese barbecue with grilled meats and fish, vegetables, fruit and drinks (water, juices, soft drinks, beer or white wine).

You'll also have time to enjoy the beach and take a dip to cool off.
 

Pirate ship: 2-hour afternoon trip

This entertaining trip follows a similar route to the first. It also passes the beaches of San Rafael, Castelo and Praia da Gale. And if conditions allow, there's a pause so you can walk the plank and have a swim in the sea.
