Faro Airport

 

The Faro International Airport is the airport for the Algarve, and it ranks third for air traffic in Portugal. The top two spots go to Lisbon Airport and Porto Airport.

It belongs to ANA Aeroportos de Portugal S. A. on whose website you can find information on flights, arrivals and departures.

Flights from national and international airlines land here, including low cost. 

It is easy to get around, as its size is nothing like that of London or New York. So finding your way around this airport will be fairly simple.

Getting around from Faro Airport by car

The N125-10 national road is the one that links the airport with the rest of the country. And the N125 connects it with Faro, the nearest city (about 4 km away)

There is a service of public buses  that stop at the airport and head towards Avenida da República in the city of Faro.

That said, for getting around we always recommend hiring a car in the Algarve. Buses and trains take long, slow routes and they do not reach every corner worth seeing.

Private or shared transfer

The best option if there are more than 3 of you, or if you're travelling as a group, or simply if you'd rather pay a little more for comfort. You book your seat in a car where you'll travel alone, with your companions or alongside other travellers, for a fixed price depending on your destination. The driver will take you to the door of your hotel or to the spot you agree on beforehand.

Buses from Faro Airport

Lines 14 and 16 of the buses known as Próximo  are the ones connecting the airport with the town of Faro. The number 16 bus is the one you want if you're heading into the centre, as you can see in this diagram. Once there, you can walk to the train or bus station and catch a second service to your final destination. On the Eva buses website you can check what's available for other towns in the Algarve.

Taxi

There are taxis available 24 hours a day at Faro Airport and a trip to the bus station or Faro train station will cost around €12. Car hire

The option of hiring a car in the Algarve will save you plenty of waiting around and confusion. It's well worth it, especially if you'd rather not spend precious holiday time standing in the blazing sun waiting for a bus or a taxi.

Trains

There is no train station at Faro Airport, but you can take a taxi to the train station for less than €20.
