Lisbon to the Algarve by train

 

From the city of Lisbon you can get to the Algarve comfortably by train, leaving from Oriente, Entrecampos or Sete Rios stations.

The Faro train station sits right next to the bus station, where both Portuguese and Spanish coaches arrive. There are daily train services here, on the Alfa Pendular, Intercidades and Regional lines.

Fast train or the cheapest one

The train option “Alfa-Pendular” is the fastest: you reach Faro from Lisbon in two hours and 50 minutes. The ticket costs around €25 each way.

With the Intercidades you save a little money, but it makes more stops. A standard ticket costs around €22, or €27 in first class.

Regional trains within the Algarve

Once in the Algarve, there are also trains on the Regional line linking Faro with Lagos, Vila Real de Santo Antonio and other towns in the area.

Getting to the Algarve from Madrid by train

To the Oriente station you can get there by train from Porto, and even from Madrid. (Renfe)

Once you're at Oriente, you head for whichever Algarve station you've chosen. Via Faro.
